Strike Over, Spirit to Start Flying Friday

The pilots’ strike has been settled, and Spirit Airlines jets will take to the skies once again Friday, after six days of sitting idle on the tarmac.
Pilots and airline management reached a tentative agreement Wednesday to end the walkout, which saw the entire Spirit fleet grounded since this past Saturday.
Details of the agreement have not yet been made public.

Pilots walked off the job Saturday, marking the first strike at a U.S. airline in five years.
At this point, there’s no telling how long the strike could go. As of midday Monday, the airline has canceled five days of flights, through Wednesday 16th.

Spirit Pilots Walk the Line in Advance of Strike

Pilots for ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines are walking the picket lines, in preparation for a strike that could begin this Saturday.
Tuesday, a group of pilots set up a picket line at Atlantic City International Airport. Today, they’re doing the same in Fort Lauderdale, and Thursday, they’ll be showing their solidarity in Detroit.
The Air Line Pilots Association International, the group representing Spirit pilots, is engaged in last minute talks with the airline this week to attempt to avert a strike.
Spirit’s Latest Innovation: Seats that Don’t Recline

Spirit Airlines, the carrier that just recently announced plans to charge for carry-on bags, has found a new innovation — seats that don’t recline.
Spirit is installing the new non-reclining seats on two new Airbus A320 jets, says the Palm Beach Post.
One of the jets is operating between Fort Lauderdale and Washington, D.C. The other jet is being used between Fort Lauderdale and New York-LaGuardia.

The head of Spirit Airlines is speaking out on his carrier’s plan to charge customers for carry-on bags.
In an email message and video to Spirit customers, Ben Baldanza, Spirit’s President and CEO, says carry-on baggage “has gotten out of control.”
Calling it a “carry-on crisis”, Baldanza says his airline’s plan to charge for carry-on items is an “innovation” designed to save time and money and improve the customer experience.

Ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has decided to begin charging passengers as much as $45 for a carry-on bag.
If you don’t pay a $39 fee to join their “$9 Fare Club”, you will get hit with a $45 charge, unless you “reserve” a spot for your carry-on in advance. In that case, the fee is $30.
