Free Wi-Fi Revoution Spreads at Airports: SFO, Bob Hope Join the Crowd

One by one, airports across the nation continue to add free Wi-Fi service.
There are still many large hubs that haven’t gotten on board – most notably, Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, and the New York City airports – but the picture is improving on the West Coast.
More Travelers Taking to the Skies This Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day travelers were out in full force this holiday weekend, as the summer travel season got underway.
For many, Memorial Day means hitting the road by car. But for many others, it means a trip to the airport. According to the Auto Club of Southern California, about nine percent of holiday travelers took to the skies this weekend.
At Los Angeles International Airport alone, officials expected 769,000 travelers to pass through the terminals during the four day period from Friday through Monday.
John Wayne Airport on the Move

Things are looking up for the second-biggest airport in the Los Angeles area.
Following the downturn in the number of air travelers over the past couple years, Orange County’s John Wayne Airport continues to rebound nicely.
In April, the airport recorded its ninth straight monthly gain in passengers, up 3.1 percent over the same month last year.
United-Continental Merger: Red Flags at 17 Airports

A new report suggests that federal regulators may see “red flags” when considering the merger between United and Continental Airlines.
The report from Cambridge Aviation Research suggests that the concerns may come from that fact that the new airline would have too high a market concentration at 17 airports, including LAX.

Virgin America Adds Orlando, Toronto – and More Cities Coming Soon

Virgin America is announcing the addition of two new cities to its system this year, and there are more destinations on the way.
In August, the airline launches daily service to Orlando from both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
And pending regulatory approval, new flights to Toronto will begin in June. The carrier will also fly to Toronto from both SFO and LAX.
