One by one, airports across the nation continue to add free Wi-Fi service.

There are still many large hubs that haven’t gotten on board – most notably, Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, and the New York City airports – but the picture is improving on the West Coast.

Best Airport for On-Time Departures? Seattle

If you flew out of the two biggest airports in the Pacific Northwest in March, chances are your flight was on-time.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics says among the nation’s major airports, Seattle-Tacoma International (Sea-Tac) turned in the best on-time performance in the month, with 90.31 percent of flights departing on schedule.

Dreamliner Ready to Fly

There’s much anticipation in Seattle and within the aviation community as the much waited for Boeing 787 is finally about to make its maiden flight.
Boeing has announced that the 787 Dreamliner will make its first flight this coming Tuesday, December 15.

The exact timing will depend on the weather in the Puget Sound region. The flight is to take off from Paine Field in Everett (site of Boeing’s wide-body jet production facilities) and land at Boeing Field in south Seattle.

Inside the Airport: A Visit to Sea-Tac

One of my favorite airports to travel through is also one of the top destinations  from Los Angeles International Airport.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport — or simply Sea-Tac, as it’s more commonly known — is home to Alaska Airlines and sister company Horizon Air.

Alaska is the dominant carrier from Los Angeles to Seattle, but they’ve also got competition from United (SkyWest) and Virgin America.

Most travelers generally try to avoid flying on regional carriers, preferring the comfort afforded by the larger aircraft of the big airlines.

But there is one carrier that does a good job of making a trip aboard a turboprop or regional jet a pleasant experience — Alaska Air Group’s Horizon Air.
