Fresh on the heels of welcoming new Airbus A330 jets to its fleet, Hawaiian Airlines is now adding more service between Maui and the mainland.

The carrier says it will add non-stop service between Maui and Las Vegas, beginning October 3.  Hawaiian already offers three-times daily service between Honolulu and Sin City.

The flights are primarily aimed at Maui residents, but are also intended to serve the Las Vegas community with ties to the island.

A special ceremony rooted in the Hawaiian culture marked the official dedication of Hawaiian Airlines’ newest jet, which is being launched into service this Friday.

The dedication is significant for Hawaiian, as their new Airbus A330-200 becomes the first of up to 27 new long-range A330 and A350 jets set to join their fleet.

The aircraft will eventually replace Hawaiian’s existing long-haul aircraft, the Boeing 767.

I’ve always enjoyed catching a glimpse of the colorful planes belonging to Hawaiian Airlines.  They’re a rare sight if you live on the mainland.

But Hawaiian does fly to the Islands from a handful of destinations on the West Coast, plus Las Vegas and Phoenix.  LAX serves as its mainland hub.

Hawaiian is noted for a number of things: It’s usually the top-rated U.S. carrier for on-time performance, and in its 81 years of operations, it’s never had a fatal accident.

When it comes to flight delays, New York City airports tend to get a lot of attention.

But if you want to avoid the worst flights, then you might want to think twice about flying out of San Francisco International Airport.

The most recent list of “chronically delayed flights” from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows that the 15 worst flights in the U.S. in January – and 28 of the top 30 – all flew into or out of SFO.
