Changing Fortunes: Delta Declines in Cincinnati, Rises at LAX

Cincinnati may still be classified as a Delta hub, but the Ohio city is rapidly losing flights as the airline cuts back.

Last year, Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International (CVG) saw a 22 percent drop in passengers over 2008, the biggest drop of any of the nation’s largest 100 airports.

Just 5.2 million travelers passed through CVG last year.

Delta has long had a stranglehold on flights at the airport; about 90 percent of flights at CVG are operated by Delta and its regional affiliates.

Regional Carriers Keep Growing

Did you know that among U.S. airports with commercial air service, 75 percent are now served solely by regional carriers?

In fact, these airlines, which fly on behalf of familiar big name carriers like United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, now operate 53 percent of all commercial flights across the nation, says the Regional Airline Association.

Just 10 years ago, that number was 40 percent.
