AA Gets Approval for New Flights to Brazil

American Airlines has received permission to begin two new routes to Brazil.
The airline will begin offering daily service from New York-JFK to Rio de Janeiro starting November 18, and four-times weekly service from Miami to Brasilia starting November 19.

If you’ve flown with British Airways in recent months, you may have encountered frustrations as the airline was forced to cancel flights and adjust its schedules to deal with striking cabin crew.
Well apparently the strikes aren’t over yet for BA. The Unite union – which represents the company’s cabin crew – is ready to call another strike vote, which could lead to further strike action as of August 3.
But BA isn’t the only carrier having to put up with employees walking off the job.

Executives at U.S. airlines are feeling more confident, as they see improved and accelerating gains in the business travel market.
It’s an important market for air carriers, as those passengers are the ones who tend to book the pricier first- and business-class tickets, as well as the more flexible full-fare economy tickets.
Speaking at an industry conference Tuesday, Delta president Ed Bastian noted a big rise in corporate revenues at his airline. In the first five months of this year, Delta saw an uptick in corporate sales of 63 percent over the first five months of 2009.

As Continental and United Airlines executives work to hammer out the details in their merger, there’s growing talk that the next merger will be between American Airlines and US Airways.

Thanks to a new Open Skies agreement, some U.S. carriers will now be permitted to fly into Tokyo Haneda Airport, the closest airport to downtown Tokyo.
Until now, U.S. carriers have been limited to flying to Tokyo’s Narita Airport, which is farther from the city.
JetBlue Partners with South African Airways

Low-cost carrier JetBlue is expanding its reach, as it adds an alliance with another airline.
The company’s newest deal is with South African Airways. The move will allow JetBlue and SAA customers to travel on a single ticket between JetBlue’s U.S. destinations and 40 destinations served by SAA.
